Alison is based in London, where she is learning bookbinding , conservation and gold finishing through a combination of college courses and private tuition. Formal training for bookbinders is hard to find; the funding Alison has received from QEST has enabled her to pursue different types of opportunities and put together a programme of training that will make a sound foundation for her future career.
Since being awarded funding Alison has been receiving one-to-one tuition in the studio of a professional binder/conservator. She will shortly be starting a college course in fine binding and next year will begin private tuition in gold finishing.
“I can already see the difference concentrated practice has brought about in my work. My goal is to establish myself in my own bindery, and hopefully pass on the skills I’ve been lucky enough to learn.”
