Anna Kettle
Pargeting
Pargetting
Autumn | 2001

Anna creates ornamental designs in lime plaster using her fingers and a spatula. This is the traditional craft trade of Pargeting and is often seen decorating the outside of buildings in Suffolk and north Essex. Pargeting can be simple combed and stamped patterns to enliven a blank wall and Anna is happy to do these, but her main interest is in designing individual pieces which she then models freehand onto the client's wall, chimney breast or ceiling. Most parget is modelled in low relief but in the last two years Anna has started to create designs in high relief and is very excited by this new direction in her work. Anna is based in Suffolk and Bedfordshire but is happy to travel.

In England there is nowhere to study the delicate skill of freehand modelling in lime plaster but her QEST scholarship in 2001 allowed her to study in Venice.
