John's interest in sculpting and stone masonry began 15 years ago when John started training as a stonemason at Building Crafts College, London. Since then he has worked on St. Pancras Chambers, Gloucester Cathedral and York Minster.
Since leaving City & Guilds of London Art School in July 2017 John did more work at York Minster carving crockets for their current programme of works.
The QEST Scholarship then enabled John to learn marble work at a workshop in Carrara, Italy. John hopes to continue with his restoration work in the UK and with his practice in Italy.
After completing the training John hopes to continue to develop his range of skills and in as many different contexts as possible. "I firmly believe that good craftsmanship is learned in many quarters both at home and abroad."
