John Sutcliffe

2017 QEST Kirby Laing Foundation Scholar - Stonemasonry & Sculpture
North Yorkshire
John offers specialist freelance stonemasonry services to the heritage sector. This normally involves a package of skills for complex and highly sensitive repair work.
He trained at Building Crafts College, Gloucester Cathedral and more recently at City & Guilds of London Art School. He also spent time in Carrara, Italy with his QEST Scholarship.

Over the past 20 years John has worked on many historically significant buildings such as St. Pancras Chambers, Gloucester Cathedral, York Minster, Big Ben, The Palace of Westminster, and Boston Stump.

I love to undertake work that requires the full skills spectrum of my craft, such as complex setting-out and banker masonry to carving and fixing. It is hugely rewarding when contributing to the successful completion of a larger project. I believe that in essence I am a craftsman and that my interest and enthusiasm for stonemasonry and our built heritage only deepens with time. My goal is to continue building my craft skills to the highest level.
