Martin Preshaw
Uilleann Pipe Maker
The Worshipful Company of Carpenters
Spring | 2015

Born and raised in Belfast Martin was surrounded by Irish traditional music but was drawn to the haunting sound of the uilleann pipes from a young age.  After undergraduate and postgraduate study in bi-lingual education he set upon the long-road of self-tuition in the many associated crafts as neither courses or apprenticeships were available.  He set up his workshop on a 30 acre small-holding in Co. Fermanagh where he works on individual commissions.  Martin plans to use the scholarship for an intense period to further develop his skills in key areas of musical instrument making to include ornamental turning, tool-making and finishing techniques.
