Jacob has been awarded a QEST Apprenticeship to enable him to continue learning thatching skills with master thatcher, Ellis Butcher of Thatchcraft Ltd. The funding will enable Ellis to dedicate time to training Jacob, progressing his existing skills and teaching him new advanced techniques. Jacob will also be taught site management and good health and safety practices. By the end of the apprenticeship, he will be able to assist master thatchers working at the highest standard, and create complex rooves with decorative features that Ellis has won awards for in the past.
The apprenticeship will also provide a pathway for Jacob to achieve thatching qualifications including Level 2 NVQ in Roofing Occupations (Construction), Level 3 NVQ in Heritage Skills (Construction, Thatching specialisation), and potentially a Level 3 NVQ in Roofing Occupations (Construction, Thatching specialisation). Upon completing his training, Jacob hopes to continue working with Ellis and aspires to become a master thatcher.
