Daniel Harrison

2016 QEST Howdens Scholar - Furniture Design & Making
Glamorgan

Daniel studied sustainable design before completing a five year joinery apprenticeship in staircase manufacture. He trained at the Rycotewood Furniture Centre in Oxford, combining his love for design and wood.

In 2016 Daniel’s QEST Scholarship funded a period with furniture maker Philip Koomen in his Oxfordshire workshop, where he learnt aspects of running a craft business with a focus on using local woodland timbers.

Based in South Wales Daniel has now set up his own furniture making and design studio, using native Welsh and sustainable woods. He works mainly to commission, while also making speculative work for galleries and exhibitions.

Daniel’s studio uses a combination of precision digital machinery, essential for the creation of contemporary fine furniture, alongside traditional hand tools worked by hand and eye.
