Effie Burns established her glass studio in 1999. Since then her practice has been concerned with glass and its ability to transform space. As an artist she works across a broad range of projects both sculptural and in the public realm. Effie has also exhibited her sculptural work internationally including shows with Contemporary Applied Arts in London and the Crafts Council in Tokyo.
Last summer she received a scholarship from QEST to study glass engraving in Bavaria with Katharine Coleman MBE. A piece of work that Effie created inspired by that experience has been selected for the prestigious Coburg Prize for Contemporary Glass 2014 in Germany.
Collaboration has also been an important part of her practice and has led to the creation of films, gardens and even a mobile museum. She has also worked with playwrights and poets on projects with New Writing North and the British Library.
