Polychromed Timber Conservation
Autumn | 2003

Elizabeth is an independent conservator who specialises in painted and gilded wood. She used her Scholarship to undertake voluntary work alongside a National Trust conservator, attended specialist courses in the UK and spent a week at the conservation department of the Stockholm Museum of Antiquities.

Elizabeth is an accredited member of ICON and continues to undertake a variety of projects mostly in the West Country- These can take several months to complete whilst objects, such as coats of arms, are completed in a shorter period.

In 2013 – 2014 Elizabeth completed the conservation of the reredos in St. Cadoc’s church LLancarfan, Glamorgan and also the polychromed altar table in St. Saviour’s, Dartmouth. Devon. Both projects involved conservation treatments to early painted carving, requiring careful removal of dirt layers and consolidation of the paint layers.
