Hannah Tounsend

2017 QEST Howdens Scholar - Ceramics
Leicestershire

Hannah combines ceramics and printmaking to create collections of sensitively realised vessel forms and subtly layered monoprints exploring the layered landscapes and sea-washed, weatherworn surfaces of the British coastline. Marks, lines and diffuse merging colours are built up, cut through and dissolved away referencing the endless remaking of the shore.

To achieve this effect, Hannah has developed a unique technique combining the traditional ceramic disciplines of throwing and slip casting. Her QEST Howdens Scholarship supported Hannah during an MPhil at the Royal College of Art where she worked on this technique.

In 2018 she was the ‘Newcomer Award’ winner at Ceramic Art London and in 2015 she was the ‘FRESH’ winner at The British Ceramics Biennial.
