Heidi Broad is a British artist (B. South Wales, 1991) currently living and working in Florence, Italy. Thanks to QEST and the generosity of the Mark Kauffman charitable foundation, who kindly awarded her annual tuition, Heidi’s ambitions are now being made a reality. From Fine Artist to the realist artist at the Florence Academy of Art Heidi is taking a step back in time to the classically trained environment.
Heidi studied at Oxford Brookes University graduating with a First class degree in fine art in 2016. During her time of study Heidi travelled to Weimer, Germany to study painting at the Bauhaus University. Here she began her investigation into photo realism and portraiture.
Her work during this time investigated the relationship between paint, surface, light and representation within a contemporary art context. Heidi is fascinated with painting, with a focus on portraiture, which stems from the empathetic manner which she engages with those around her and connects to the world.
At the Florence Academy of Art Heidi is perfecting her craft in drawing, studying anatomy and the structure of the skeleton. Through the intensive drawing programme artists analyse geometry through structure using an established set of exercises focusing on, outline, proportion, and shadow shape. Here she aims to perfect her skills in line drawing.
