Jessa Fairbrother
Hand Embroidery
Spring | 2019

By combining photography (taken in a fraction of a second) with embroidery (slowly and purposefully made by hand), Jessa Fairbrother’s work challenges perceptions that needlework is confined to the domestic sphere or photography is restricted to two dimensions.

Funding from QEST will enable the self-taught embroider to undertake formalised training with the Royal College of Needlework, where Jessa will also learn about the history of the craft as she perfects techniques to use in her contemporary application.
