Lewis is pursuing a career in the conservation of objects and buildings. The QEST scholarship enabled her to successfully finish her Post Graduate Diploma in 3D Conservation at City and Guilds of London Art School. Whilst being trained in organic materials and those used in construction of medieval and Renaissance structures, the course also emphasizes the importance of learning to restore contemporary materials and research of relatively unknown Perspex and epoxies.
“Without the help I received from QEST it is highly unlikely that I would have been able to embark on a career in Conservation so early in my life”.
After completing the Post-Graduate in Conservation, Lewis was accepted onto a year long paid internship in Preventive Conservation at Westminster Abbey. The internship is run by Icon (Institute for Conservation) and paid for by Heritage Lottery Funding. When the internship ends in October 2014 she plans to continue working for and in historic properties, looking after their collections and building fabric.
