Textile Design
The Garfield Weston Foundation
Spring | 2012

Mandeep completed her undergraduate studies in Mixed Media Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art and Design and was awarded first prize in a collaborative project between Burberry and Christopher Bailey. As part of her award, she was given a three-month paid internship with Burberry, working as part of the design team in the Fabric and Trim department

Her QEST scholarship enabled Mandeep to undertake the MA Textiles at the Royal College of Art where she further specialised in Mixed Media Textile Design. She strives to create unique fashion/interior fabrics with a strong emphasis on material exploration. ‘I am passionate about using traditional techniques and materials in new and innovative ways with the aim of pushing the boundaries of textile design,’ she explained. ‘My work seeks to explore cross- interdisciplinary areas of interior design and textiles. Merging two opposing qualities such as industrial/architectural materials like rubber with those that are typically textiles has been insightful and produced some pleasing results.’
