A&M Restoration and Conservation was established in 2000 by Ann-Sofie Widegren and Maria Hagglund after they both finished 5 years studies in restoration and conservation of furniture and decorative surfaces. They are based in Archway, London working both in their workshop but often working on site on larger pieces or on interiors both for private customers, interior designers and the Royal Collection Trust. The training was mainly focused working with wood or decorative surfaces on wood and metal. But over the years they have been trained to work with marble or different stone surfaces. A&M is always interested to expand their knowledge and tries to keep up with new techniques.

Ann-Sofie and Maria were awarded the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship to attend a 10 day full-time advanced Gilding restoration course in Bologna, Italy. Gilding was part of Ann-Sofies and Marias training but there was not enough off it, and they both felt they would like to deepen their knowledge. This course taught them the traditional methods in gilding and also how to use old traditional paint techniques. It has meant that they are now able to take on extensive gilding and more complicated projects.

In 2010 they were asked to take on a project in a "poetry corner" in a garden at Windsor Castle where they had several conservation students working with them. The paint techniques used were the ones that they had been taught on the course in Bologna.

Ann-Sofie and Maria are now running gilding courses in their workshop where they teach everything from basic oil and water gilding to restoration of gilding. Students are coming from all over the country and also from abroad as far as Sydney. Additionally, they are currently involved in a project for a Grade 2 listed building, where one of the things they are responsible for is to strip back the old paint off an old coving, do the repairs and then re-decorate it.
