Martin Preshaw

2015 QEST Carpenters' Company Scholar - Irish Union (Uilleann) Pipe Making
Fermanagh

Handcrafting bespoke musical instruments from his purpose built workshop in County Fermanagh, Martin closely follows the turnery aesthetic and acoustical design of the serene Masters, Timothy Kenna, early 19th century union pipe maker and especially, his heir apparent, Maurice Coyne.

Having spent a prolonged period of intense understudy with uilleann pipe maker ‘par excellence’, David Quinn of Waterloo NY, supported in part by his QEST Scholarship, he has returned to making uilleann pipes, specialising in flat pitched pipes, for the present generation of master uilleann pipe players such as Éanna Ó Cróinín and Michael “Blackie” O’Connell, while attending to the musical brilliance of the next generation.
