Mary French is a book conservator based at the Cambridge University Library. The QEST scholarship enabled her to obtain her MA in the conservation of books and library materials from West Dean College in 2013, without which she wouldn’t have found her present position.

Mary is currently working on the Lewis-Gibson Genizah Collection, a collection of paper and parchment manuscript fragments from the Cairo Genizah which dates back more than a millennium. Notable items include a large, autographed work by Moses Maimonides in his own hand, a letter written by a woman escaping the First Crusades, rare and important biblical texts, an autographed poem by the Spanish Hebrew poet Joseph ibn Abitur and magical spells, among other things.
