Mary Wing To is a Leather Designer and Harness Maker based in London. UK. Having gained a Distinction MA in Fashion Design & Technology at London College of Fashion. Mary became an apprentice Harness Maker at the Royal Mews under the discerning eye of the Queens Master Saddler. Mary is dedicated to preserving Saddlery craftsmanship; she sculpts, carves, moulds, dyes and hand-stitches to create outstanding designs and couture, winning many accolades for her workmanship.

Mary used her QEST award to gain further knowledge in traditional whip making; a skill rarely found today that needs preserving within the UK. The QEST scholarship has been crucial to the progression and of the refinement of my workmanship and my career. With the scholarship funds I have been able to undertake a variety of unique courses with renowned Master Artisan’s within their fields, which, have enabled me to fine tuned aspects of my own leather craft as well as gaining further knowledge and techniques to enhance my skills now and in the future.

Mary continues to revives British Saddlery Craftsmanship in Design, creating luxury bespoke leather pieces for clients all over the world. She recently hand moulded a Sculptured Leather Horsehead for the Queens 60th Coronation Festival and was commissioned to make a bespoke costume piece for Carey Mulligan's up and coming film ‘ Far From The Madding Crowd’ due for release in 2015. Mary was made a Freeman of The Cordwainers Company in recognition of her work. Mary works from her studio at home and was recently employed by luxury fashion brand Chanel.
