Matthew Cook
Architectural Stonemasonry
Conservation & Stone Work
Summer | 2017

Matthew is a stonemason specialising in the conservation/restoration of historic stone buildings. Matthew began his career by serving a formal apprenticeship at York Minster Cathedral. Matthew has subsequently gone on to gain a number of vocational qualifications and work on a variety of notable buildings in the UK and abroad.

QEST awarded Matthew scholarship funding to enable him to complete a distance learning MSc degree in Historic Building Conservation.

Matthew continues to operate through his own independent practice based in the Yorkshire Dales. Matthew has now resumed his part time studies and is progressing as his work commitments allow.

Matthew is looking forward to completing his studies and hopes to continue working on buildings of historical importance. In the future, he wishes to pass on the skills he's learned throughout his career and train an apprentice should a suitable opportunity arise.
