2017 QEST Scholarship - Stone Conservation

Matthew is a stonemason who specialises in the conservation/restoration of historic stone buildings. After beginning his career by serving a formal apprenticeship at York Minster Cathedral, he has subsequently gone on to gain a number of vocational qualifications and work on a variety of notable buildings in the UK and abroad.

Matthew’s 2017 QEST Scholarship enabled him to complete a distance learning MSc degree in Historic Building Conservation.  He continues to operate through his independent practice based in Yorkshire.

The built heritage of England is one of the nations most valuable assets. I am proud to play a part in preserving the work of our ancestors for future generations.
