Spring | 2015

At the age of 16, Sam had discovered that he wanted to pursue a career in sculpting stone. His enthusiasm lead him to work for the firm Cathedral Works Organisation, who granted him an apprenticeship to study stonemasonry at Weymouth College. Having acquired a unique set of skills in the field as an accomplished stonemason, Sam has now enrolled on the Historic Stone Carving course at the City and Guilds of London Art School. The QEST scholarship has enabled Sam to fulfil his initial desire and build on an exciting profession that will hopefully last for many years to come.

During the summer break between academic years, he has spent as much time as possible in his own workshop carving small ornamental pieces. Sam has also been working for a London stone conservation company to support himself living in central London. His plans for the future will be to hopefully expand the workspace he currently occupies and create a thriving career.
