Scott received his MFA from Ohio State University in 1990. He has been a Fellow at the Creative Glass Center of America and an artist-in-residence at the Toledo Museum of Art, the National College of Art & Design, North Lands Creative Glass, Vrij Glas, Pittsburgh Glass Center, the Corning Museum of Glass and the Tacoma Museum of Glass. He has taught workshops in Italian cane techniques at the Penland School of Crafts, the Pilchuck Glass School, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, the National College of Art and Design, the Glass Furnace and was a visiting scholar at Osaka University of the Arts in 2009. In 2011 he was given the Lifetime Membership Award from the Glass Art Society. In 2013 his QEST Scholarship funding allowed him to further his study of glass chemistry and the generation of glass colours.

My concern as a maker has been to engage the history of the medium in an informed way and to participate in that continuum. I try to build on that history by creating new means of expression and increasing my understanding of the material by going back to the same conditions of fire and gravity, using the same tools that have shaped glass for two millennia.
