Ian Maclean is Managing Director of his family’s knitwear company, John Smedley Ltd, which has been based in Derbyshire since 1784.  John Smedley is a British manufacturing brand that sells its eponymous fine knitwear in over 50 countries around the world. Ian is a Grantee for two Royal Warrants from Her Majesty The Queen in 2013, and the Former Prince of Wales in 2021. Ian is also a Director of UK Fashion Textiles, the trade association of the UK’s textile manufacturing sector, a trustee of the John Smedley Archive Charitable Trust, and a member of the Clothworkers Livery Company.
