Evelyn Albrow is an illustrator and ceramicist. Her work is defined by mark-making, using brushes, crayons and sgraffito to produce densely decorated surfaces on raw exposed clay. Funding from QEST will allow Evelyn to take her hand-built and decorated stoneware vessels to a larger scale. She will be learning mould-making with ceramic sculptors Rebecca Appleby and James Oughtibridge, and surface techniques from artist Claire Ireland at West Dean College. She’ll also gain the technical confidence to build bigger though training with Onggi master Kwak Kyung Tae in Korea.
Evelyn has shown at Collect with Alveston Fine Art, and had pieces acquired by the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum and Gallery Oldham. She’s keen to learn new decorative practices to expand her visual language. The QEST Scholarship will help move her practice forward, bringing new connections and opportunities to reach wider audiences. She’s a member of the vibrant community at Yorkshire Art Space but would like to extend her network across the UK.
