Benjamin received his BA (Hons) degree from Camberwell College of Arts. There he studied drawing “as visual thinking”, developing a profound interest in figurative painting, and extensively studying the work of the Old Masters in the Museums of London.
After graduating Benjamin embarked on a career as a portrait artist working from photographs, before enrolling on a one month programme at The Florence Academy of Art to gain insight into the traditional methods of oil-painting. This introduction to working from life made a dramatic impact, and in September 2011 he returned to enrol as a full-time student on the Drawing & Painting Programme.
In 2013 a QEST Hiscox Fine Art Insurance Scholarship supported him in concluding his studies at the school, and in June 2015 he received his graduate diploma. This final year of study involved an increased focus on portraiture and a more sophisticated technical understanding of the painter’s materials. Benjamin moved to the USA in late 2015, and works from his studio in Hyde Park, NY. He takes portrait commissions from around the world, and pursues personal artistic projects.
