Cara Campbell

2024 QEST D'Oyly Carte Charitable Trust Scholar - Decorative & mural artistry
Herefordshire

Cara is a mural artist who combines fresco and stucco work to create decorative masterpieces. She primarily works with lime but is eager to extend her practice into wood and gold to create public art installations, decorative room schemes and shrines to nature.

As part of her QEST training, Cara will participate in five courses including a mixture of one-on-one training with master craftspeople such as gilder Roger Newton, heraldic wood carver Robert Randall, expert plaster sledger Ed Bentley and ancient painting techniques expert Carey Mortimer. She will also study an MA in Contemporary Crafts at the Hereford College of Arts.

Cara hopes the skills learned from each master craftsperson and her MA study will allow her to acquire the skills to broaden her large-scale work from in situ decorative lime pieces in the heritage field into a more ambitious contemporary art practice.

She aims to make more elaborate studio work on wood that can be transported for display.
