Helen Brough

2019 QEST Howdens Scholar - Stained Glass Painting
London

Helen is an artist who uses the ancient art of silver staining and painting on glass to create striking works of contemporary art.  Her awards include the Prix de Rome and the Prince Charles Travel Scholarship. The Soros Foundation has funded her exhibitions in Romania and Hungary and in America she has received funding from the Pollock/Krasner Foundation, Triangle Arts Association and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts.

For the last 30 years Helen has exhibited extensively worldwide with galleries and museums. In 2017 she was commissioned by British Land to create a sculpture for Broadgate and in 2018 was a finalist for a commission at the Buffett Cancer Center, Omaha Nebraska. In 2019 she had her first solo Exhibition with The Nordic Art Agency, Malmo, Sweden. Her QEST Scholarship will fund master classes in glass painting in the UK, Germany and New York.

My chosen subjects include urban, botanical, sea and landscapes with a natural curiosity in the unconscious. A poetic thread runs through the work reflecting the force of nature in the process of being. Colour is the driving force and using glass for large scale sculptural work is a passion.
