John, who rode and loved horses from an early age, learnt his farriery skills on the family farm, working alongside his brother Derek, a training farrier. A QEST David Blackburn Apprenticeship supported John during this time and enabled him to study for a diploma at Hereford College. He and Derek worked on specialist shoes for competition and racehorses, and even onegars and zebras at Chester Zoo.
Now a fully qualified farrier, John runs his own business in Cheshire.
