Margaret Jones

2014 QEST Garfield Weston Foundation Scholar - Tapestry Weaving
Surrey

Margaret’s tapestry career began in 2010 when she did a short course in tapestry weaving at West Dean College. She never looked back and by mid 2015 she had been at West Dean for three years and gained her MFA in Visual Arts specialising in Tapestry Weaving – something that could not have been achieved without funding support from QEST. Having discussed with them the fact that tapestry weaving needed to be returned to it’s fine art roots she set about arranging Healleaf, bi-annual international tapestry exhibitions in the UK, in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

I first wove tapestry on the 8th December 2010 and have never looked back. Since then I have gained my MFA, exhibited all over the world, taught advanced tapestry weaving classes, won several prizes and been invited to help fulfil a contract in the professional tapestry studio at West Dean. There are still many tapestries I need to weave and it is a slow discipline, maybe one day a solo exhibition would be nice.
