3-End Leno Weaving with Laura Thomas
October 16th 2021 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
£95This is a technical yet experimental workshop which will introduce you to the exciting possibilities of the 3-end leno weave structure. This weave structure allows you to create very open fabrics with minimal warp, that is still very structurally sound.
We have the added opportunity of cutting into this fabric to make our own chenille yarn.
‘Leno’ is to twist warp threads around themselves as part of the weave process. This workshop will teach you how to do this as a ‘loom controlled’ process rather than finger manipulated.
We will learn how to make ‘doups’ to add to our looms to achieve this exciting weave structure. I will also show you how the same effect can be achieved using a bead instead of a doup, and we’ll discuss and understand the merit of either option.
Participants will be encouraged to explore and experiment with weft yarn choices and weft colour ordering to create a range of interesting technical samples.
Leno woven fabrics make excellent choices for blinds, light shades, place mats, lightweight scarves and of course, artworks.
For this workshop you will need to bring a prepared table loom, with a minimum of 4 shafts. Warping instructions will be sent when you book a ticket.
