Ash Splint Basketry with Steve Tomlin

This is a two day course in ash splint basketry and if all goes well you’ll take home a fantastic fruit basket you’ve created.

During the course you’ll learn about pounding, grading and preparing splints learning the skills to weave while creating a practical and beautiful fruit basket. An ash log is pounded to separate the individual growth ring layers which are then woven into lightweight, elegant and strong baskets.

This is a traditional American craft and Steve learned to make these baskets with April Stone-Dahl, a native maker from Wisconsin.

Steve Tomlin has been working professionally with green wood since 2003 and is an internationally respected craftsman with a huge breadth of knowledge and experience, both in making and teaching.
