Twice a year Cockpit opens their doors to the public, for the opportunity to meet some of the world’s most celebrated craftspeople in their studios. Surrounded by their tools, materials and work-in-progress, this is a rare glimpse behind the scenes and a chance to hear first-hand about their inspiration, process and the often meandering journeys they’ve been on to get here. Open Studios is also an opportunity to buy pieces of exceptional craftsmanship direct from the hands that made them.
Cockpit welcomes some 20 new makers each year, so even returning visitors are certain to discover someone new. Their programme of funded studio placements means they are home to some of the most exciting emerging young makers, who you can discover before the rest of the world does!
Working across a range of materials and techniques, the makers cover everything from millinery to jewellery, and fine art ceramics to sustainable woven textiles.
NB: Summer Open Studios is held at Bloomsbury only this year, due to ongoing building work at Deptford which will be unveiled at the grand opening in September. A number of Deptford makers also be guest exhibitors at the Bloomsbury event.
Numbers are strictly limited, so book your tickets early to avoid disappointment.
