Hardcover bookbinding with Gillian Stewart

In this workshop you’ll make two handbound books using traditional bookbinding methods and materials – one single section and one multiple section book. Each open completely flat and will be bound in a unique hardcover.

The day will cover:
Hand sewing a text block
Preparing pages for sewing
Attaching end papers, spine linings and endbands
How to make a hard cover that fits any book
Handling bookcloth, marbled paper, linen thread and adhesives
When to use each type of binding
’Casing in’ a book block

The cost includes use of all professional tools and materials, including an selection of carefully selected bookcloths and hand marbled papers. Everyone will leave with two unique books to take away, and the instructions and skills to make more at home.
