In Conversation: Designs on Silver with Goldsmiths’ Fair

Rue Pigalle invites you to join a live conversation with silversmiths Michael Lloyd, Nan Nan Liu and QEST Scholar Rod Kelly, whose work features in the online exhibition Designs on Silver, as part of the Goldsmiths’ Fair.
The silversmiths will join from their studios on Zoom – the Shetland Islands with Rod Kelly, a remote part of Scotland with Michael Lloyd and central London with Nan-Nan Liu. Their unique process starts with intricate drawings of the piece and the decorative elements, symbols of the emotional message conveyed by the object. You will discover makers with a deep soul and enormous generosity of the heart. If there was ever a group of artists that connect the hand-heart-mind, it would be them.
Dr. Dora Thornton, curator of the exhibition, will also be joining the conversation. There is always some mystery attached to the role of a curator – where do they find all these ideas and connections between the artists, contemporary events and the mood of the moment? Making an exhibition relevant to its time is an art that requires as much intuition as factual knowledge.
