Step into the extraordinary world of exquisite craftsmanship and historical significance with the “Treasures of Gold and Silver Wire” exhibition at the Guildhall Art Gallery.
“Treasures of Gold and Silver Wire” marks the 400th anniversary of the Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers.
It will mesmerize visitors with a collection of over 200 rare items made of gold and silver wire sourced from Royalty, the Arts, Military, Ecclesiastical, and Civil sources as well as stunning modern creations.
2020 QEST D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust Scholar Kate Pankhurst will exhibit her piece ‘Lockdown O’Clock’.
The piece won 1st Prize at the Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery 2021 (Open student category) and was also the winner of the Worshipful Company of Gold & Silver Wyre Drawers 2021.
“The piece explores our perception of the passage of time during the pandemic. In lockdown, time flies, yet is marked by the analogue slow phases of the moon and the growth of plants. For the first time, we have time to appreciate a dull cityscape and flocking pigeons as beautiful,” Kate said.
“I am delighted, honoured and humbled to be included in this prestigious exhibition.
“I can hardly believe my piece has earned a place in 400 years of the finest British gold and silver work.”
