Painting stained glass is a passion for Eleanor Bird. Her love for this traditional craft sent her to the University of Sunderland, where with the help of a QEST scholarship she was able to spend a year developing and exploring her skills. Upon her return to Bristol, Eleanor set up her studio and business – Glass Schemes, which creates painted stained glass artworks for Ecclesiastical and non-sacred settings.
Between 2011 and 2013 Eleanor created a set of 7 windows for a chapel in Lourdes, France. Since receiving her scholarship, Eleanor’s designs have been shortlisted for two Cathedral commissions. In 2010 her work was exhibited in the British Glass Biennale. Most recently she has designed stained glass for The Church of the Good Shepherd, Kirk Sandall. This 4x4m window combined both her traditional glass painting skills with more contemporary printed enamel on glass.
