Toby Gough
Paper and Book Conservation
Conservation & Paper
Spring | 2010

Toby received his scholarship to enable him to take on a bookbinding apprenticeship with Master Bookbinder Per-Anders Hübner in Halmstad on the west coast of Sweden. He is now based in Stockholm. The scholarship allowed him to develop his existing skills in paper conservation and after two years as an apprentice Toby passed a comprehensive test to become a Bookbinding Journeyman.

Since moving to Stockholm Toby has worked for Nationalmuseum with their collection of drawings, prints and books. In October 2014, however, he will start his own company. Initially he will run short courses in bookbinding aimed at different types of creative groups. Toby’s future plans include developing tools and equipment to encourage writers, artists and other creative individuals to “micro-publish” small editions of their work in book form.
