V&A Acquires Work by Kayo Saito at Collect
23rd March 2023

The V&A Museum acquired work by goldsmith Kayo Saito at Collect earlier this month.
Kayo exhibited a new series of brooches on the QEST stand, made of 18 carat gold and semi-precious stone and inspired by petals and leaves. ‘Spring Brooch’ was created using semi-precious stone carving skills Kayo learnt during her scholarship with fellow QEST Scholar and jeweller, Charlotte De Syllas. The piece caught the eye of a V&A Jewellery Curator at the event, and has now been acquired for the permanent collection of the museum.
Kayo says, “I’m absolutely overjoyed that one of my brooches has been bought by the V&A Museum. The process of creating new work is very much a conversation with myself and a constant pushing of my boundaries. Exhibiting on the scale of an event like Collect is exciting but always daunting as a maker. I’m delighted to be included in the V&A’s jewellery collection – it’s a milestone in my career which fills me with courage to continue with what I believe in.‘
