Inside the Studio with Two Rivers Paper

Inside the Studio with Two Rivers Paper

QEST Drapers’ Company Apprentice Zoe Collis completed a three year papermaking apprenticeship with Two Rivers Paper Company in Somerset, one of the few commercial handmills in Europe. In Country Living’s Inside the Studio series, we meet British artisans and makers whose passion for handmade, sustainable and thoughtful design is poured into every aspect of their small business.

A Timeless Craft

Paper might seem ordinary, but at Two Rivers Paper, it is anything but. The studio keeps alive the age-old tradition of handmade papermaking, a practice with deep English roots. What sets this paper apart? It’s less absorbent, allowing paint to lift off the surface and giving artists more room to experiment and correct mistakes.

These handcrafted sheets aren’t just beautiful, they’re built to last. Some will likely survive for centuries, carrying with them the stories and artistry of those who made and used them.
