Abby Hobbs

2021 QEST Scholar - Children's Book Illustration
Berkshire

Abby is an illustrator who aims to create a bridge between words and imagination that can help young readers advance their reading capabilities. She has already been involved in seven self-published children’s books, ranging from picture books to chapter books and YA. She is extremely mindful of the lack of inclusivity in British publishing and is passionate about reflecting the diversity of the UK on children’s bookshelves.

QEST funding will support Abby in her MA in Children’s Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. The course will hone her illustration skills to the highest standards and enable her to bring her work to the attention of UK publishers and commissioners. Abby is keen to encourage the joy of drawing and support young illustrators from all backgrounds enter the field of book illustration.

I am a big kid shaped by shelves of treasured dog-eared children’s books and sketchpads filled with eccentric doodles. I intend to study and sustain the craft of illustration to be able to embolden new generations to be creative, compassionate and quirky too.
