Alan is one of a handful of dedicated shallot makers, making a highly specialised brass component for the pipe organ industry. In 2007 Alan was granted a QEST Scholarship to learn from Robin Stannard, who was the only surviving maker of organ shallots.
Alan has a well-equipped workshop in Essex, bringing the highest of fabrication standards to this ancient craft. The pipe organ industry is now experiencing a period of growth and he has created shallots for prestigious churches, cathedrals and public buildings worldwide.
