Ben Hudson

2024 QEST Scholar - Bicycle frame building
West Midlands

Ben is a bicycle frame builder based in Birmingham who has been building frames since 2015. He is determined to keep as many production processes as possible in-house, reducing the need to involve third parties. QEST training will allow Ben to make bikes which are more refined, more expressive, and more accessible as a result.

His Scholarship funding includes four separate training activities consisting of Cerakote Certified Applicator training; bike frame painting at the Stolen Garage, Paris, welding training at the Central Building and Welding Academy; a computer aided design course at the Armada Training Centre; and an airbrush course at the Dave Bristow Art School.

Ben’s long-term goal is to extend the market for handmade frames and to pass on his skills to the next generation.

Riding a bike is a magical way of connecting with our bodies and the natural world. I love playing a part in this process, working with a customer to create a bike which is perfectly aligned with their requirements and aspirations.
