Ben Laughton Smith

2016 QEST Sir Siegmund Warburg Scholarship - Fine Art

Ben Laughton Smith is an artist producing contemporary works of art in the classical tradition. Born in the Cotswolds and living in West Sussex, from an early age Ben developed an admiration for the discipline and creativity of the great painters.

After completing his school education, Ben studied at the University of Birmingham and the University of the West of England and then specialised in oil painting, studying at the London Atelier of Representational Art.  He has since exhibited internationally.

I like to strive for paintings whose charms don’t shout too loudly for attention, only to leave the viewer cold. Instead I try to produce pictures which speak softly, rewarding those who devote time to them.
