Caroline Perkins

2022 QEST Scholar - Oil Painting
Hampshire

Caroline is an artist specialising in oil painting who uses mark-making to give value to semi-representative and semi-abstracted forms, using emblems such as cross-cultural mythology in her work. She has a particular interest in the materiality of oil paint and is investigating ways of making more sustainable paints.

QEST funding will support Caroline during the final year of her MA at the Royal College of Art, where she is exploring the challenges of locating the craft of painting within a contemporary art practice. The knowledge she acquires will enable her to bring the craft to a wider audience by breaking down barriers within a framework of community engagement.

I am most often drawn to the tragic tales of women in myths and stories, and how their tragedy draws parallels in my own life. My paintings are generally large to accommodate expansive mark making to express emotions.
