Lauren is a Scenic Artist and Prop Maker, originally from East Ayrshire in Scotland, and now studying at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Her QEST funding will support her final year of studies, along with three intensive courses in specialised scenic painting skills including spray painting, Old Master cloth techniques, and Trompe L’oeil (or ‘deceives the eyes’) process.
Lauren’s craft journey began with a degree in Fashion and Textile Design, but she found her true calling in theatre. After gaining experience in a set-building company, she decided to focus on developing hand craft skills, which led her to Guildhall’s highly regarded course in Production Arts. Through her studies, Lauren has quickly advanced her skills, building a robust portfolio to define her practice.
Following graduation, Lauren aims to work as a Scenic Artist and Prop Maker in the theatre industry, with aspirations to preserve and champion traditional craft techniques that are increasingly being replaced by technology. She is committed to sustainability in her practice, working on projects that reduce waste and use reclaimed materials, and hopes to contribute to the growing push for environmentally conscious practices in theatre production.Â
