Bethan Wyn Williams

2021 QEST Finnis Scott Foundation Scholar - Textiles & Design
London

Bethan is a designer and textile printmaker from North Wales, who specialises in intricate, grand repeating designs. After completing an Art Foundation course at Central St Martins, she studied for a BA in Surface Design at the London College of Communication, as well as doing a short course in Textiles and Surface Pattern Design at City Lit. She has since gained experience working for a variety of designers and textile-making companies including Vespertine, as well as freelance work.

A QEST Scholarship will enable Bethan to attend a course in Botanical Illustration at Kew Gardens, which will teach a deep and comprehensive knowledge of all skills needed for botanical illustration, botanical art, sketching and observing nature closely. She will also undertake two courses at City Lit to develop her digital skills further.

Having had success producing highly detailed and elaborate repeating textile designs for private commissions, she is now looking to the next steps in her career, working on creating complex repeating patterns celebrating the natural world in hand-drawn and hand-painted surfaces.

Inspired by the natural world, I design elaborate, highly detailed large-scale repeating patterns and apply these complex artworks onto fine surfaces such as linen, ceramic and wallpaper. Quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail are paramount, with each and every element hand-drawn or hand-painted to offer the very finest finished artwork.
