Huimin Zhang is a goldsmith and gold artist based at Cockpit Bloomsbury in London. Her fascination with traditional metal crafts began through sixteen years of collecting antique filigree jewellery, amassing thousands of pieces that inspired her to study Jewellery and Metal Design at the Royal College of Art. Working exclusively in 22K gold, Huimin handcrafts each piece from alloy composition to completion. She has developed specialist tools to produce gold wire as fine as 0.05mm and invented a low-temperature 22K gold solder powder, enabling her to combine techniques such as filigree, engraving, and European gold and silver embroidery in innovative ways.
With QEST support, Huimin will continue advanced training with master goldsmith Giovanni Corvaja to deepen her understanding of gold wire production and push the creative and technical limits of her work. This will allow her to realise new design ideas and gain further recognition for her unique approach to this craft.
Huimin aims to master multi-coloured gold wire and create work that reflects themes of women’s health, elevating her craft to new levels of skill, creativity, and individuality.
