Isabelle Davies

2021 QEST Gosling Foundation Scholar - Stained Glass & Glass Conservation
Cambridgeshire

Isabelle is a glass-artist who specialises in stained glass, both conserving historic stained glass and producing original works. Originally gaining her BA in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History from Oxford University, she studied for an MA in Stained Glass Conservation and Heritage Management with QEST funding supporting her tuition fees during the final year of the course.

The final year further developed the skills and knowledge of stained glass history and practice which Isabelle gained during the course’s first year and in addition she carried out a three month placement at the York Glaziers Trust. The course also gave her access to the Nicolas Barker Studio to hone her craft and conservation skills.

Since completing her training Isabelle has taken up a role as a stained glass conservator at Canterbury Cathedral.

I find understanding and appreciating the art’s past is crucial both to learning and creating in the present and to ensuring the craft’s longevity into the future.
