James trained as a banker stonemason before working as a draughtsman and workshop foreman for a small restoration company. A QEST Scholarship enabled him to complete his two year post graduate diploma in Historic Stone Carving at the City & Guilds of London Art School. He now runs his own business, Restoration Stone Carving.
