Laura Jeary

2013 QEST Garfield Weston Foundation Scholar - Stonemasonry & Building Conservation
North Yorkshire

Laura changed the emphasis of her career to channel her increasing interest in heritage skills and craftsmanship when she moved from architecture and undertook a part-time diploma in stone masonry at York College. After an intense year of total immersion within the craft, Laura accepted a three year stone masonry apprenticeship at the York Minster stone yard. With the support of a QEST Garfield Weston Foundation Scholarship, Laura started her apprenticeship in August 2013, and relished the opportunity to work and learn in this focused and well-respected workshop. During the apprenticeship Laura learnt banker masonry, setting out, fixing, conservation and carving.

Having completed her apprenticeship Laura gained experience as a stonemason at Dean and Chapter, York Minster, before moving to France where she now lives and works.
