Kate Montagne-Macdonald

2013 QEST Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Scholar - Architectural Sculpture

Kate works as a modeller and sculptor’s assistant with the respected architectural sculptor, Geoffrey Preston, in Devon. Funding from QEST allowed her to undertake a two year apprenticeship with Geoffrey, developing her sculptural skills in clay, cast plaster and stucco, a rare technique in which he is one of the country’s few specialists.

Since receiving her scholarship, Kate has worked on the Great Drawing Room ceiling at Great Fulford, a large and spectacular project which won the 2013 Plaisterer’s Trophy and was commended in the 2013 Georgian Group Awards. Smaller projects throughout the year have allowed her to practice clay modelling, drawing, moulding and casting, and she has helped Geoffrey design and set up exhibitions at the Royal Academy and at Lawrence House in Launceston. Having recently moved to new premises just outside Exeter, Kate will continue working for Geoffrey on upcoming projects in Dorset and Henley upon Thames, and is currently preparing for an exhibition at the Harley Gallery near Welbeck Abbey.
