Kathie Murphy

2024 QEST Scholar - Jewellery
East Sussex

Kathie started making jewellery at 14 years old continued on to gain a degree at Middlesex University and a post-graduate degree from the Glasgow School of Art. She specialises in colourful resin jewellery, and for the greater part of her career has explored and developed the possibilities of this material. Kathie has written two books and her work can be found in the collections of the National Museum of Scotland and Middlesborough Institute of Modern Art.

Kathie now wants to elevate her knowledge of working with hard stone and precious metals which will allow her to explore and develop new pieces of jewellery with confidence. With the help of a QEST Scholarship, Kathie will learn to improve her silver and gold soldering by training with Anna Gordon and Jean Scott Moncrieff, alongside a stone carving workshop with QEST Alumni Charlotte de Syllas.

Her goal is to create a new body of work and participate in shows to widen her audience. She’d also like to pass on her skills through teaching at a college or on a one-on-one basis.
